Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint
Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint gets a little mention in the Video Games Hot Dog podcast in Episode 18, 49 minutes in.
The guys there liked our solution to the problem of sliding your finger off the edge of the screen being interpreted as lifting your finger off the screen deliberately. It was a tough problem to solve, as it's almost impossible to accurately detect the difference between the two actions on a touch screen, but one action should take a shot, and the other cancel a shot. Whichever way around you pick as the most likely, sometimes the player will be taking shots when they meant to cancel, or cancelling shots which they meant to take.
The solution (really close to the end of development) that John came up with was to shrink the whole play area into a smaller section of the screen when your finger approached the edge of the screen, thus hopefully avoiding the need for your finger to ever slide off the edge. We think it's a pretty neat, original solution, and the podcasters appreciated it too.
It's nice when your good ideas are noticed!
