Subject: Plok comic strip
I worked this up into a more detailed sketch. Actually, I only drew the background, as the position of the Plok limbs looked OK in the thumbnail, and I'm so familiar with how to draw them that there was nothing I felt I needed to work out.
I wanted the other three characters looking straight up. I first drew Wubba at a slight angle in this sketch, which I wasn't happy with, so although the position and head was OK I'd have to draw the body at more of a top-down view later.
I still wasn't sure how to handle the ground. It's easy to say just draw lots of detail, but what detail exactly? The ground is pretty much empty in the comic. I tried drawing a crater, created by Plok's explosion, then bits of debris radiating from the crater, with what are meant to be tracks in the ground (as if left by debris landing in motion, leaving trails of upturned ground behind them). That seemed doable.
To add an extra bit of interest, I tried adding a swarm of fleas invading from the top of the page, but decided this was a mistake. Not only did the fleas not look great from above, I thought it was trying to cram too many ideas into one cover, when there was already plenty going on. Plus they'd mostly be covered by the logo and credits etc., so maybe a waste of time and effort.
