Subject: Plok comic strip
This is the layout sketch for the very first Plok comic strip.
The original is just 10cm by 5cm (a proper 'thumbnail' sketch), and was nestled in my work notebook between a layout sketch for an end-of-level pop-up window in Magnetic Billiards: Sardines, and what look like some cm / inch conversion values, to work out what size I'd need to draw the strip, and what DPI to scan it at, to get it at a decent digital resolution.
The sketch even contains the actual script as well!
I didn't really have a plan for what the strip was going to be about, or where it was going at this point. I just wanted Plok waking up and seeing our other games, with a load of blank space in between. A kind of expression of my own frustration about how long it takes us to make games, and how few we've managed to release in recent years.
I also wanted to see if I could break down that idea into four panels or not.
I'd not even brought up the idea of a Plok comic strip with John at this point, so this little scan of of the layout sketch was my 'pitch' to him of the idea of us doing a regular comic.
I can just about make out that I was trying to draw a comfy chair in the first panel, but I've no idea what the second panel doodle even is!
