Sardines Animation test #4

This is a fourth little animation test for another character who will be popping up in a new version of Magnetic Billiards we're working on, 'Sardines', which will be an expansion of the Sardines Arcade mode from Blueprint.

This one is based on our John, the inventor of the game, and is the first one based on completely new drawings (nothing recycled here from the old PC prototype).

I'm really pleased with this little bit of animation, which isn't something I say often.

I was chuckling to myself continuously as I fiddled with it over the weekend, but wasn't sure if only I'd get the joke. You lose perspective when you spend hours and hours rewatching the same half a second of movement over and over, making tiny changes. I sent a quick video of it via text to John and he replied instantly with 'proper LOL', and then sent the data over to the programmer Bone, who mailed back saying it had made him laugh.

Result!

Each of these animated sequences has gotten a bit longer and a bit more complicated than the previous one as I get a bit more comfortable with animation scripting system we're using. By the time I get to the end of this job in a few days time I'll feel like I'm getting competent at animation again, which will be just as I have to switch from doing animation to something completely different.

Oh well, that's the best / worst part of being an indie developer.
