Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Sardines
This is a second little animation test for another character who will be popping up in a new version of Magnetic Billiards we're working on, 'Sardines', which will be an expansion of the Sardines Arcade mode from Blueprint.
These characters are deliberately made out of flat, rotating pieces, reminiscent of the British animated kids TV shows from the 1970s, things like Ivor the Engine and Pigeon Street, which had a big effect on me when I was little (and thinking about it, probably influenced the creation of our character Plok). I've cheated a bit by also adding a bit of squash and stretch.
I'm not sure there's any use for a thought balloon in the game, but I liked the idea of making a constantly animated balloon out of lots of smaller balloons (and the scripting system makes doing this really easy), and it looked nice when I finished it, so maybe we'll come up with some reason for the characters to have secret thoughts as well as speak...
These first tests are based on characters originally drawn for the PC version of the game, but I'm planning on adding myself and John, and the rest of the development team, as in-game characters as well. That's my next task!
