I was invited to write an opinion piece for the SPONG video game news website a few weeks ago, so decided to expand what was going to be a little blog post criticising the video game game BAFTA awards (sort of a British version of the Academy awards, but who cover TV and video games as well).
It ended up being a bit longer than I originally planned, and that was after a lot of editing down, and seems to have been picked up as a news item on most (UK at least) video game news websites today.
Let me you know what you think.

I agree with your main points, but to really bring it home it would be awesome if you could cite some painful examples of oversights or injustices from the awards' history, perhaps citing one a week! If that would be too alienating, I offer up the NAVGTR awards for criticism. Search for navgtr qualifying ballot on Gamasutra or Develop or go to navgtr dot org. This ballot was released two months before nominations specifically to get people talking before the vote, not after. I think strong debate would be healthy for any awards program, so let me know if you would like to debate some media people.
