Subject: Pickford Bros.
Pub pints? What do they have to do with video games?
Quite a lot, if the Pickford brothers are anything to go by. The pic above is from The Swan in Buxton, from last night.
John and I meet up once a week for a pint or two and a chat about the video games we're working on, or ideas for future games.
We come up with all our best ideas over a pint or two in the pub. I'm sure lots of other game designers (or any other creative types) do the same.
We didn't have a meet up last week as John was ill, so tonight's was the first for a fortnight. I had at least one 'oh my gosh, I've been thinking about it all wrong' moment tonight, when talking about our new project, which will need me to revise half of the work I did today and yesterday. I think John had at least one similar revelation, which will inform the changes he makes to our new demo over the next few days.
I love working at home on my own - it's great for clear thinking and uninterrupted work - but sometimes you need to talk things through with somebody else to get a fresh perspective. Our Friday night meetings in the pub allows us to swap ideas and give us both fresh inspiration.
That's exactly what happened tonight. We had a great chat about the new game, came up with some cracking ideas, corrected a couple of mistakes we'd made with our previous thinking, and had a few pints along the way.
I also started sketching again, for the first time since Galway. Will post results soon.
