Another page from my sketchbooks on flickr.
What's the game connection here? Just the location. I drew this sketch of the roots of a palm tree on the beach of posh hotel in Hawaii, back in 1994.
I was sent over there by Software Creations because we'd just been given the contract to make the game of the movie Waterworld (don't ask).
The movie was being filmed in Hawaii, and the trip was supposed to be for all the people developing the games to have a tour of the film set, see the costumes, talk to the production staff etc.
I was hoping that we'd also spend the evenings getting smashed with Dennis Hopper, but it wasn't to be.
There were about fifteen other people there from several big companies - Nintendo, Ocean, Interplay, etc. - all of whom were involved in the movie's video game licensing in one way or another. But Software Creations were the only company who just sent the game's main developer on the Hawaii trip (me - I was producer / designer). Every other company sent their top executives / COEs etc (although Interplay did send their producer in addition to the two big bosses).
So it was just a big jolly for all the company bosses, and I was pretty much the only hands-on developer there.
