Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Seriously Casual

Ste Pickford

This is a diagram I did for the early Magnetic Billiards documentation, explaining how the table works, with the various chutes and tubes attached.

We went for a very familiar snooker / pool style table, to ease newcomers into the game, but the game mechanics are quite different to other billiards variants because of the way the balls attach themselves to each other.

The other big difference is the way we add and remove balls from the table.

There are no pockets. Balls are removed by automatically by the table itself. The green baize is a kind of contraption that can make ball-sized holes at any position, and balls are sucked down into the mechanism below.

Once there, some balls are selected for recycling. These balls exit the tube at the top, then work their way around the mechanism, and wait in the recycle queue at the right of the table. When the player selects, they can then drop into the chute, and are brought back onto the table via the same mechanism that removed them.

It looks great in the game!
