This was the first test render I did when experimenting with ideas for the scoreboards and UI screen furniture in Magnetic Billiards.

The font and wood texture have changed, and the actual 'Grand Score' panel has it's own unique design, but otherwise this isn't that far away from the final product.

Part of the idea of the Magnetic Billiards theme was to make everything real and mechanical and physical. We didn't want any video game 'magic', or as little as possible. We wanted the table to work as a theoretically viable mechanical contraption, and wanted the scoreboards and other panels to feel like physical objects too.

We went for a snooker hall kind of look, with lots of wood and brass. I originally toyed with the idea of displaying the actual score with brass sliders, like in snooker halls, but decided that would be too difficult to read. We kept the video game tradition of numeric scores, but made the number rollers physical, mechanical devices.

I still wanted the brass sliders though, and we managed to work those in on the main scoreboard, which has a slider showing how close your current score is to your target score.
