Subject: Magnetic Billiards: Seriously Casual
Another character sketch from our new game, Magnetic Billiards (see yesterday's pic for a screenshot and video of the game in action).
I posted the finished graphic last week (follow the 'older pic' link above). Once again I missed out the moustache when doing the sketch. I think I wanted to see if it would work without one, but after seeing this I decided it would have a bit more character with a big moustache.
One thing I love about mixing hand drawn work with computers is the ability to move things around. This is trivial in a graphics package, but incredibly difficult when drawing with a pencil or a pen. If something is in slightly the wrong position, you have to redraw it to move it even a millimetre in relation to another part of your drawing.
Unless you're a brilliant draughtsman (which I'm not), you often you end up making do with a slightly wonky drawing because it's just too difficult to rub out and redraw a feature just a tiny bit further up than it already is, or you try to wing it in the inking stage, by inking just a bit to the left, but it doesn't always come off.
Once I've scanned a finished drawing in, it is great fun fixing my mistakes by grabbing and moving small areas of the drawing around. Not only can I improve drawings this way, I end up making better drawings in the first place because I'm not all tensed up and worried about making mistakes.
