Equinox font

Subject: Solstice 2

This is the little 8x8 pixel font from our SNES adventure game Equinox, from the early 1990s.

This was the first project where I had a crack at doing a Japanese font, so I guess this was the first game we worked on that was translated into Japanese. I wasn't sure enough of the Japanese characters to attempt to squash them up enough to fit a single pixel drop shadow on them, so they don't match up very well with the English characters. It was fun to draw them though.

I had written loads of and loads of text and dialogue for the adventure layer of the game, and it was great to see this in-game in Japanese. Unfortunately this whole layer of the game was dropped close to the end, so the final released game has very little text in it, and even the Japanese release would probably have worked fine with only English text.

Really great font you created! It's one of my favorite SNES font styles.

Where can I actually download this font? Or is it just de gif file?

Just the gif file I'm afraid. That's pretty much exactly what went into the game.
