Subject: Naked War PC
This is a rough layout sketch for part of the cover / loading screen design for Naked War version 2.
The cover design is based around four soldiers in four different vehicles (the number four is a big theme in the game), so this sketch only represents one quarter of the design.
The face was all wonky, so I had to re-sketch it, to the right. He looks a bit like Lee Marvin I think.
My plan was to try out a new technique with this cover art. I would take the scanned sketch, get it into Photoshop, then paint directly over the top with the wacom pad. I quite like the look of this kind of digital painting, but I've never successfully managed to draw very well straight onto the screen. By doing all the sketching / drawing on paper, but all the colouring / rendering with the wacom pad, I would hopefully get the best of both worlds.
I got about half way through painting this up properly and it was looking pretty good, and I did at least one more layout sketch, but unfortunately I've not been able to finish the new cover yet. It's still our intention to return to Naked War, finish off some of the extra features and content we we're half way through developing, and release version 2, but paying work keeps jumping ahead of NW in our work schedule.
Naked War is still running though, and is in free play mode, so give it a try if you haven't already (follow the website link below the picture). I'll send anyone a Challenge!
