The FAQ

Section 1: Zee-3

1. Why are you called Zee-3?

John and Ste Pickford set up a game development studio in 1988 called Zippo Games, specialising in new, original video games, which was later sold to their major client. Some years later, in 1996, the brothers set up a second studio to carry on where Zippo left off, called Zed Two. Once again, the aim was to create interesting, original and fun video games, and once again the studio was sold some years later in 2002.

Zee-3 is the Pickford Bothers' third venture - this time an online publisher rather than video game developer - sharing the same aim of creating original, fun, and high quality video games, so some continuity of naming was appropriate.

Section 2: Audio

2.1 How does audio licensing work?

The music albums available for purchase and download on the Zee-3 website are sold under a licensing system. There is no physical product, such as a CD or a vinyl record, so when you buy an album from us you are purchasing a personal-use license for the recordings contained in that album. Once you've purchased a license for a particular album, you are then allowed to download any tracks from that album from the Zee-3 website.

2.2 Why do I need to register and create and account here? I just want to download the music.

We need you to create a user account in order to identify you whenever you return to zee-3.com, so we can keep track of which albums you've already licensed, which tracks you've downloaded, create invoices for your purchases etc.

2.3 Do you use DRM (digital rights management)? What restrictions are placed on the use of audio files I download after purchasing a license?

We don't use any DRM. When you download an audio file from an album you've purchased a license for, you're free to make any personal use of it you like. You can copy it to any other PC or MP3 player, make a CD of it, play it to your friends, whatever you like. We only ask that you don't sell or make any other commercial use of the music you've download, or hinder our ability to commercially exploit the music (by giving it away, for example).

2.4 What if I don't download all the tracks from the album straight away? Or what if I lose them, or change PC?

You can download any files from any albums you've purchased a license for any time you like. You don't need to download them all at once, and you are allowed to download them again at a later date. So long as you log in using the same account you purchased the license with, you'll be able to download any files associated with that license.

We can't promise that all files will remain available for download forever, but we'll do our best to keep everything available for download for as long as possible.

2.5 How can I tell if I've purchased a license for a particular album or not?

Details of all your license purchases (and video game purchases) are visible on your My Zee-3 Account page (link at the top right of the page), which is always available provided you are logged in.
